Begin with the workload
List the actual applications and tasks: documents, video calls, design, programming, specialist tools or gaming. Include how many applications normally run together and any required accessories. A machine suitable for ordinary browsing may not suit a demanding creative workflow, even when both are described as modern laptops.
Separate condition from specification
Specification describes the design and configuration. Condition describes the particular unit being sold. Two laptops with matching specifications can have different battery condition, damage, display defects or repair histories. The labels brand-new, UK-used and locally used should therefore lead to a written condition assessment, not replace it.
Recognise fixed upgrade limits
The MacBook Neo teardown reports soldered memory and storage. [10] A buyer should choose a suitable configuration at purchase rather than assuming it can later be expanded. This does not establish that the product is unsuitable; it makes the original workload assessment more important.
Understand a battery claim
Apple’s launch battery figure is based on stated test conditions. [9] A customer’s runtime depends on use, settings and condition. For a used unit, request evidence about the battery and test the machine under realistic tasks where possible. A high battery percentage at the start of a demonstration does not by itself show battery health.
